St. Vincent Mainland/Flora & Fauna
St. Vincent is a paradise for all tropical flora and fauna lovers.
The little St. Vincent parrot (amazona guildingii) is the island's national bird and oldest inhabitant. With the entire
St. Vincent parrot population at only around 600, it is strictly protected - and with a soaring black market
value of around US$ 50,000, it certainly needs some protection.
You'll find an amazing diversity of plants and animals
almost everywhere you go in St. Vincent. If you'd like to explore the island's rich flora and fauna more systematically,
it's well worth taking one of the stunning Vermont Nature Trails through the Buccament Valley - and also get to see the
St. Vincent Parrot in its natural habitat.
