St. Vincent Mainland/Countryside

One of the loveliest stretches of countryside in the island's interior is Mesopotamia - the fertile valleys of Fenton and Marriaqua.

This stretch of fertile volcanic soil is a major area for agricultural produce - primarily bananas. Despite the difficult growing conditions on the mountainous island, the banana is St. Vincent's main export. With temperatures steady around 27° Celsius, the "green gold" can be harvested all year round.

Hidden in among the little banana plantations, you can also find rock carvings made by the ethnic Carib people - and standing amidst the island lush vegetation, it's easy to understand why they called this place HAIROUN "Land of the Blessed".
