The Grenadines/Bequia
Bequia - in the ethnic Carib language, "island of clouds" -
is the largest of the Grenadines. For many years now, Bequia's spreading natural harbor has made it a popular meeting place
for sailors from all over the world
Port Elizabeth, directly at the main harbor, is the main town. The island itself is only 7 sq. miles - about 14 sq. kilometers
- and has around 5000 inhabitants. Traditionally, the people on Bequia lived from the sea, from boats, boat building,
seafaring and whaling. In the meantime, tourism is the island's mainstay.
Life in Bequia happens at its own easy pace. And anyone wanting to get to know the islanders better is sure of a friendly
welcome. Bequia is so small that it's a great place to explore on foot, and has wonderful nature and seaside trails.
